Welcome To Crysania's Music Page
|My love of music began young. I was just 3 or 4 years old when I
first heard the siren's call. You see, I grew up just a few blocks
away from our high school. And drifting down to our house on the
crisp Autumn air were the sounds of my high school's marching
band. I knew I wanted to be involved. I started music as
soon as I could. First chorus and then, when I was 8, I started
clarinet. My whole goal as an elementary school student was to get
into the marching band when I was in high school. I grew up living
and breathing simple band pieces.
All that began to change when I was in middle school. I had been having some trouble sleeping and a friend of mine suggested listening to Classic FM (the local classical music channel) because that would, apparently put me "right to sleep." Quite the contrary, it kept me up most of the might as I reveled in the amazing sounds I hadn't ever heard before.
I became an instant fan of classical music and by the time I entered high school (and was happily in the marching band!), I knew I wanted to become a music major in college.
Toward the end of middle school I began composing. I was lousy at it, as you'll see if you check out my "evolution" pages further into this site. But I improved slowly. In college, while I majored in theory and history, I was more and more drawn to composing and a class in 16th century counterpoint (along with an introduction to a very influential teacher), prompted me to pursue my composition studies further.
My masters degree and my doctorate (still ABD) are both in composition.
In 2003, I developed a new musical love: Irish traditional music. Along with playing clarinet, I now play Pennywhistle and an Irish frame drum called a Bodhran. I play music with my partner, David, and a small group of friends twice a month at a local Irish pub. It's my relaxation time. I love the music, I love the Craic, and I love being able to just play without having to rehearse.
On this page you will find links to information on all of my great musical loves, along with many samples of my compositions. Please do enjoy!
